osouji... the art of the cleaning of the space of the new year...

so years ago i worked in an office that was FULL of paperwork, phone books, maps, clutter, folders of old files, drawers of old folders, and unnecessary office supplies & fliers.  i had read somewhere that at the beginning of the year, the Japanese do a ritual cleaning of their offices...

well this was 10 years ago, i forgot where i heard this and the details are a little off.
but the concept is the same.

Osouji

the Japanese do a ritual cleaning at the END of each year, not the beginning.
and its not just of their offices, but of their homes as well.

our office needed this and i would've happily had gone in on a weekend with 2 coworkers and a few pizzas and cleared it all out.  but this never happened.  no one really wanted to do it, and i left the company.

now here it is - 2018 - and im at a different company in a whole different industry.  and my desk is severely cluttered.  i used to have desk drawers but last year I worked at a client site and my drawers mysteriously "disappeared".   with all of my files, passwords, personal items and test data in them.  and NO ONE knows where they are.

this isn't simply annoying but now i have no drawer space.  so everything at my desk now gets stored ON TOP of my desk.  with paperwork, supplies, snacks, plastic bags, boxes & trinkets, my desk is out of control.

what i currently see:
6 plastic bags
2 boxes of tea
1 unsharpened brand new pencil
9 condiment packets
1 unused laptop
2 games
a stack of old notes from old projects, AKA trash
1 expo marker ????
2 bowling trophies (again, neither are mine)...
1 box starbucks peppermint mocha keurig cups
1 container collagen
1 huge red flag 😕
1 star wars cup
2 empty binders
...other countless junk...
